A family tradition for formalizing exploration

Treating your year like a themed party makes everything easier.

We have too many choices, too many hobbies, and not enough willpower to explore new things in depth.

New Year's Eve usually feels like a letdown. We celebrate the changing of the date, but rarely the changing of our purpose.

The Shift

The Solution: Theme of the Year

"Just like a party theme sets the music and dress code, a Year Theme decides your trips, hobbies, and gifts."

One big decision on NYE simplifies thousands of small ones during the next 365 days.

The rules

1

On the night of December 31st, a new theme is chosen and set for the upcoming year.

2

Once the theme is set, it cannot be changed throughout the year.

3

A dedicated budget must be allocated to explore the theme.

4

Plan at least one family trip specifically around the theme.

Some examples of our experience so far:

New Year's Eve transformed into an exciting planning session, with the goal of choosing next year's theme by midnight
